Based in historic McCarthy Alaska, in the heart of what is now Wrangell St. Elias National Park, McCarthy Air was established in 1988 by owner-operator Gary Green. Although Gary is now retired, his legacy lives on through McCarthy Air’s sister company Wrangell Mountain Air. The flight services provided by McCarthy Air continue to be available via Wrangell Mountain Air, whether it’s drop-offs for hiking, mountaineering, rafting, or flightseeing and charter flights over one of the wildest and most dramatic national parks in the world. Wrangell Mountain Air is housed in the McCarthy Air office in downtown McCarthy.

History

Gary Green, founder of McCarthy Air, has been flying the Wrangell Mountains since acquiring his private pilot's license in 1975. In 1988 he founded McCarthy Air to serve increasing tourist air transportation needs resulting from the creation of the 13.2-million-acre park. A permanent resident of McCarthy since 1973, Gary has mined gold, guided hunters and trapped in the Wrangells.  Forever a student of local history and nature, Gary has a lifetime of stories and observations to relate. And although he is retired, he can be spotted almost daily around town or up in the skies.
